Present perfect tense adalah suatu bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu aksi atau situasi yang telah dimulai di masa lalu dan masih berlanjut sampai sekarang atau telah selesai pada suatu titik waktu tertentu di masa lalu namun efeknya masih berlanjut.

Present Perfect Tense dibentuk dengan auxiliary verb “have” atau “has”, dan past participle (verb-3). Have digunakan untuk I, you, dan plural subject seperti: plural pronoun (seperti: they, we), plural noun (seperti: boys, men), dan compound subject dengan kata hubung “and” (seperti: you and I, Tom and Jack); sedangkan has untuk singular subject seperti: third person singular pronoun (seperti: he, she, it) dan singular noun (seperti: Tom, man).

Fungsi dari Present Perfect Tense sebagai berikut:
1. Present Perfect Digunakan Untuk Mendeskripsikan:

Example
- Tindakan atau situasi yang dimulai di masa lalu dan masih berlanjut hingga kini. I have lived in jakarta since 2019 (= dan saya masih tinggal di sana.)

- Tindakan yang dilakukan selama periode waktu yang belum selesai atau berakhir. She has been to the cinema twice this week (= dan minggu ini belum berakhir.)

- Tindakan berulang dalam periode yang tidak ditentukan antara masa lalu dan kini. We have visited Indonesia several times.

- Tindakan yang baru saja selesai atau berakhir, dinyatakan dengan just. You have just finished my work.

- Tindakan di mana waktu tidaklah penting. She has read 'War and Peace'. (= hasil atau akibat dari tindakan membaca itu penting)

2. Tindakan yang Dimulai di Masa Lalu dan Masih Berlanjut Hingga Kini

- We haven't lived here for years.
- He has worked in the bank for five years.
- They have had the same car for ten years.
- Have you played the guitar since you were a child?

3. Saat Priode Waktu Tindakan Belum Selesai atau Berakhir

Example
- They have worked hard this week
- It has rained a lot this week
- They haven't seen her today.

4. Tindakan Berulang dalam Priode Waktu yang Tidak Ditentukan Antara Masa Lalu dan Kini

Example
- They have seen that film five time
- It has happened several times already.
- He has visited them frequently.
- They have eaten at that restaurant many times.

5. Tindakan yang Baru Saja Selesai atau Berakhir (+Just)

Example
- Have you just finished work?
- We have just eaten.
- They have just seen her.
- Has she just left?

6. Saat Waktu Tindakan yang Tidak Penting Atau Tidak Diketahui

Example
- Someone has eaten my noodle!
- Have you seen 'Gone with the Wind'?
- He's studied Japanese, Indonesian, and English.
